PERSONAL STATE
An extension of Postcards from the Disposable City, the Personal State invites random members of public to photograph and submit their personal images to evolving urban landmarks, spaces and national icons. It is an attempt to understand the perception and significance of our urban condition and the cultural markers that define it through a crowdsourced urbanism.
Their personal statements reflect the day-to-day, the banal, the mundane. We see many such personal images capturing a touchstone of urban life - collective snapshots of various aspects of the city we inhabit, from the truly personal to the universal. The project also allows for recurring or traditional imagery to persist – images of the city that are colloquial, familiar and ultimately, comforting.
